MissouriWine.net Next Up For Launch
One thing many people do not realize is how the Missouri wine industry is growing, Missouri has long been one of the top wine producing states in the US (at one point grapes from Missouri were used to seed some vineyards in France after a widespread die off of grapes in France) and as of late there have been some very large new wineries popping up.
One of the fastest growing new wineries is located about 20 miles from where I am located and based on that we tend to get a lot of information locally on wine tourism in Missouri, etc.
Since we have quite a few contacts in that industry we decided it was time to start development on a site focused on winery reviews, directory information, and other content related to the Missouri wine industry. One of our writers has been working diligently putting together 80 plus articles to cover each of the wineries and we have people lined up to add content weekly in the near future, all in all the site will turn into quite the resource for people looking to plan a wine tour in Missouri.
Yes, this all works quite well with Missouri.me and really augments packages that we offer to certain types of customers.
There are a few areas of the site we are still need to finish before actual launch (the layout of the main content area of the site is NOT the final version by any means) but one of the things I am finding interesting is that we are already starting to get relatively decent traffic based on ranking high for quite a few terms. Quite a surprise based on where we are in the site development cycle.
You can take a look at MissouriWine.net, we still need to lighten up the internal site links that are there (the plugin is being very aggressive right now) and finish up the front page main content area and then finish adding the rest of the directory but so far so good while it is "soaking in".
I am looking forward to finishing this up, and sampling some of the products:)

Looking good Bruce! What are your long term goals for the site/name?
We already have some frequent winery visitors (winos???) lined up to do reviews, over time I expect more user submitted reviews and to have a full destination portal with full event calendaring, etc. It looks like we have our first advertising customers already lined up as well.
Owning some good wine domains myself, you might want to get
missouriwinemaker(s).com too
good luck
I have oklahomawinemakers.co
Hi Bruce, your not concerned at sending traffic to the .com version?
Nope, not at all. The .COM is owned by a small winery so the traffic from search for them will be much lower than our traffic and the amount of people doing type in traffic for this is at a minimum.
I appreciate what you are concerned with but it goes back to the development vs domaining, sometimes as domainers we get to wrapped around .COM, .NET, etc when the amount of type-in traffic to many names is minimal, even if I lost 20 visits a month to the .COM at the end of the day it is not worth buying the winery to get those visits : ) I say that with a smile obviously….
Thanks!
I was interested in hearing your reply to that question. Thanks
Thanks Rosco. You have any thoughts on the response? I truly like to hear perspectives on that, not everyone agrees with me obviously.
haha, it was good. A few more lines of text than I had expected.
I agree, especially for a site like this which is what I call a “one stop shop”, visitors arrive from the search engines (using your seo skills) they look for the info they want, click on your advertisers adverts, (you get money) and the visitor gets the info that they wanted. Will probably never need to return to the site. So lost visitors due to being a .net is minimal, actually just comes down to your SEO skills.
Actually, just had a new question arise. Have you got plans of adding a newsletter signup to it? Maybe vino.com has a AF deal. I think newsletter signups are so important, gives you another chance to sell them something with each email you send out, compared to a random sole visit to your website which might average 30 seconds for example.
Perfect thinking:)
Actually the newsletter is something that will come next month, already have it planned, it is something perfect for this type of site.
Since this is a tourism destination site the ads will be direct advertising deals with the wineries and businesses surrounding them. Since we will have many reviews and other info I expect the visitors will look at several pages to determine what wineries to hit on their tour (thats the reason we divided it into various regions).
Luckily we have ranking well for many terms, we have been surprised by the amount of search traffic we are getting already and we have not even really started.
