Minisite To Google First Page In Less Than Month

Its been about a month since launched the Mathbooks.net minisite. I thought it would be good to review the results of the launch of this keyword rich minisite.

First off this site was done a little different than others I have done in the past. I had originally planned to build the site myself but due to time constraints I chose to outsource to AEIOU.com. So, this site is a combination of keyword researched content written by a selected writer I use for many of my sites and SEO and site development done by AEIOU.com. I also did a bit of my own link building but the majority was done by AEIOU.com.

Rather than take you through all 15 keyword selections I chose to target we will show the results for the top two: Math Books and Mathbooks. These are the most generic terms that could be chosen other than the singular version of the words which normally means that they will also be the most competitive. Math Books was shown to have a search volume of 90,500 in the month of March per the Google Keyword Research Tool.

Before the minisite I was getting anywhere from 1 to 3 visits per day parked. This created revenue but I knew I could do better with a site if I could rank well for the terms selected.

Well, the results are in, currently if you search for the term Math books the site ranks between 4 and 6 (seems to move around a bit but always consistent) and Mathbooks is ranking in the 4th spot. That is in less than a month, first page for a generic keyword in less than a month is a very solid result and shows that the work and investment can pay off.

Traffic is more than 10 times the visits per day than parked and revenue has obviously increased along with that. I very soon will be implementing Ebay Affiliate Ads on the page as well which should allow for even further increased revenues.

Nice looking site Bruce. Just a few things you might want to take care of, the sitemap is broken and your keywords and descriptions are empty on the first few pages I checked. You would also probably have better results if you didn’t use the exact same keywords on every page, and if you didn’t have 19 different lengthy keyword combinations. Some search engines will see that as stuffing and penalize you. Great results for such a short period of time though.

    Thanks for the comments.

Sitemap fixed, it was good when it launched, must be an issue with the Google Sitemaps Generator. Regenerated and all is good, thanks for noticing that, I do not usually go back and double check those:)

I believe the description issues are due to the All In One SEO plugin configuration, appreciate the tips. Always afraid to touch one the results are this good though:)

lol just google “pink tables” and you’ll see what good SEO does without ANY content.

Just figured out the description issue, looks like a few posts missed the All In One SEO descript and keyword love.

It is amazing what can be done with certain terms with good seo even with minimal development at times. Not sure I would rank as high with Mathbooks.net with that though:) Not knocking what you have done, to be honest I get a kick out of it when people can rank high showing the SEO gods that although content is king you can sometimes still win by just playing it differently.

    Great Work,
But if you notice, Google always gives preferences to generic words in search results. I have launch election.net.in a month back and surprisingly it is visible in Google search results for “India election news” . I have given a link to this election site from my one of pr4 site.
So, basically if you have keyword in domain name and on single link from any link having Google PR you are done. And top of it if you add keywords in title having same as domain name then it just ROCKing.

By the way I enjoy your posts.

  7. I too have had the same sucess with my minisite. . .

    Regards,

    Ross,

I have not really looked but there are plenty of solid free themes out there.

    Bruce,

I’m not seeing your site ranking for “math books” anywhere on the first three pages… maybe you were getting a “newness” benefit a couple of months ago? The exact-match domain here should certainly help this site, though we’d all prefer the .com version over the .net version as I believe Google gives that much more weight. Anyhow, good stuff.

  11. bruce says:

    Jon,

That site has dropped but I have others that continue to stay ranked. At some point I will work on getting it ranked again. I have other sites that I launched around the same time that continue to rank first page/first result on Google.

    Thanks for the comment.

    Bruce
