Google Superbowl Commercial Simple But Perfect

I am sure many tech minded folks are talking about how unimpressive the Google superbowl commercial was. And to those of us using search to its fullest everyday it may seem very unimpressive.

Many people are already talking about how it should of been for the Nexus One, or some other whiz bang new application Google may have.

Well, in a world where most people are still getting their hands around some of the most basic features Google has this was a great way to showcase the various functionality you can get right from your search bar, flight times, local search, etc.

By telling a story one search at a time and each search showing an example of a functionality built right into Google they did a great job showcasing what search really is today, a way to find anything.

Although Bing may not be all that right now Google needed to showcase what people can do with their tools, most people are not aware that you can do all of those things right from the search bar. I am there are many superbowl watchers thinking of new things to search for they never thought of before.

Also, the commercial reminded me of the blog post I did the other day about watching long tail search queries.

    Unimpressive?

I thought that commercial was brilliant.

I saw it about a week ago somewhere on Google’s website, and I thought it was fantastic.

While I do see the other side, I think Google did a good job of showing their search capabilities.
And judging by all of the girls’ response…. Nice work, Google :P

Agreed, I think for what they need to accomplish, and whether people realize it or not there is still much for them to accomplish, this was perfect.

I thought the commercial was absolutely brilliant. The human story and how Google enhances your life experiences throughout your life was right on the money. Oh, by the way, and I am a geek.

LOL, thanks Al. Yeah, I really think they did a great job.

  5. Certainly no glitz or glamour, but it WAS highly effective. Not that cost was an issue, but it was also probably the cheapest ad to make. Sort of funny that the company that doesn’t need to advertise, did just that… but it was money well spent IMHO.

@John – I think this is was not a case of advertising for brand awareness but more of making the general user aware of what the possibilties are.

I thought it was brillant as well. Would have been even more awesome if they did what etrade with the babies or an older adult.

Still great and was simple and great!

    Flo.tv was great
    Etrade was great
    Couple others

Now I can’t wait for Missouri.me be on a commercial in couple years and a .tv following bruces company! Ha!

I liked the “sentence” search terms. I buy 3 word domains a lot.

Curious if goog would have done this if Bing wasn’t running TV ads.
