WordPress Minisite News Aggregator in 15 Minutes

Minisites for your Domains come in many different forms. One that has become popular is taking a niche and building a news aggregator using WordPress and the FeedWordpress Plugin which is built specifically to aggregate RSS feeds from sources that you choose. This How-To Create A WordPress Minisite Tutorial will show you how to create a WordPress Minisite aggregating news for a specific topic, in this case using Cpanel and Fantastico.
If you do not have hosting with Cpanel and Fantastico then you should head to Hostgator.com, since they have packages that allow for unlimited WordPress installations at very low prices, I use them for all of my hosting for both my dedicated servers and blog hosting for BruceMarler.com

Excellent post, Thanks! One thing I’m having trouble with is adding custom images to the WordPress theme headers. Do you think it matters? Would it be simple to do in the ProSense theme? Also, the content on the site as of 041209 doesn’t have a lot to do with St. Louis. How might you now approach adding enough local content to end up with a mini geo site?
Should work fine in any of the wordpress themes, its a matter of getting the image sized right and the proper code in.
The site was meant as an example, you will want to grab the RSS feeds from the sites and categories of the sites that have content you are looking for. For GEO sites this is normally pretty easy. Sometimes you may end up with national stories as well though.

All my sites are at HostGator, so setting up new WordPress installs with Fantastico was a snip!

You do realize that this is against the adsense TOS don’t you? I am not knocking what you are doing. I am looking to do something similar. In fact my testbed setup was almost identical to what you have done. However, now I am looking at launching a full blown BIG site there is no way this approach is right.
Have you found any other ways of doing this? I have been looking at alternatives to google alerts, and most of them are hugely expensive.

Got any tips on how to find suitable rss feeds that will give you full content plus pics like your ifone website? That also don’t have copyright on them.
My subject is “bluetooth headsets” producing a review website.

Ross, I’d recommend visiting news.google.com and searching for your topic. Then there’s a small orange button in the left of page – almost in the end – RSS. Just copy paste the link it refers to. Hope it helps
