Hi Bruce,

Get rid of the guilt, broey! It's a failure by the selling medium, not you. The auction site selling your domains has this responsibility. How basic is this for them? Is it really up to domain sellers to chase down all the domains we sold on each domain-selling medium to remove it?

Think about Sotheby's. Do they offer up items they sold two months earlier? I feel stupid even asking that question rhetorically.

It's a no-brainer for customer services offered to sellers by the auction sites. "We'll sell your domain, and then, like smart sellers, remove the domain from our listings so nobody else bids on it unless the new owners designate it for sale."

Snapnames does this automatically, as far as I know.

Complain to Sedo, and stop worrying about tracking down sales and where you sold them. Flex those Marler biceps!

You're right, of course ... but there's another side to this question.

While I usually delete my sold names from Sedo/Afternic/Parked/etc., I occasionally forget. And on a few occasions, I've made useful sales that way. (I've received an offer for much more than I'd sold the domain for, so I've bought it back from my buyer, giving them a profit too.) Or, in some cases, I've just told my buyer about the new offer and asked whether they wanted to sell; if so, I've messaged the new buyer, explaining the situation and asking them to make the offer again in a few days.

When I buy domains, I often ask the seller to remove them from any sites where they're listed. That reminder is helpful, and most sellers will cheerfully do so.

@Cole - Thanks, yeah I caught myself being on the bad side of it and thought it best to get organized. I have always made best effort but think making sure it is done and being organized about it is the best model to use.

Great post Bruce!

I keep a spreadsheet of all of the places I have the domain offered for sale, including forums. I have always found it a little annoying when I attempt to list/park a domain with Parked/Sedo/ALDS/anywhere else to find that there is a "conflict" as someone else did not remove the listing. It's never a huge deal, but at some places *cough* ALDS * cough* make it a big pain.
